Music sets the rhythm of a wedding, from the ceremony to the last dance. In Dubai, with its hotels, beaches, villas and desert venues, a few practical questions make the difference between a good evening and an unforgettable one. Here are the seven Charles Stif recommends asking before you book.
1. Does the DJ know the venue and its rules?
Many Dubai hotels and venues set sound limits, curfews, load-in times and technical requirements. A DJ used to working in five-star hotels will check these with the venue's events team early, so there are no surprises on the day.
2. What is included in the sound and lighting?
Ask exactly what the quote covers: speakers sized for the number of guests, microphones for speeches, a separate setup for the ceremony or the cocktail area, and lighting for the dance floor.
3. How will the playlist be built?
A good wedding DJ prepares the music with you: the songs that matter, the ones to avoid, the cultures and languages of your guests. Then, on the night, they read the dance floor rather than following a fixed list.
4. Can the DJ cover the whole day?
Ceremony, cocktail, dinner, first dance, party: each moment needs a different atmosphere. Check that the DJ can follow the whole day, and plan the timings together with your wedding planner.
5. Can live musicians join?
A saxophonist at sunset, a percussionist on the dance floor or a singer for the first dance can turn a set into a show. Charles works regularly with saxophonists, percussionists and singers, and plays live percussion on drum pads himself.
6. What is the plan B?
For an outdoor wedding, ask about weather and heat, a backup setup, and how equipment is protected near the beach or a pool.
7. What does the contract say?
Hours of performance, overtime rates, setup and sound check times, travel outside Dubai: everything should be written down before the day.
