From Dunkerque to Dubai: 15 years behind the decks

On 30 July 2010, Charles Stif played his first official set at a birthday party in Dunkerque. Fifteen years later, he performs for some of the most demanding venues and brands in Dubai. Here is the road in between.

The beginnings in the North of France

Charles grew up in Zuydcoote, in a modest family with little connection to the music world. His first deck was a Christmas present in 2010. He then played at Zatapasta in Dunkerque and L'Espadrille on the Malo-les-Bains seafront, and in 2012 had his breakthrough moment in front of 1,500 students at the Kursaal in Dunkerque.

Learning the trade, building a business

Residencies in Lille, an LED robot show with Eclipse Show, a creative agency, Music Eyes Design, founded in 2014, and two Master's degrees in 2017: Charles learned to run events from both sides of the booth, as an artist and as an organiser.

Going international

From 2016 the bookings took him to Belgium, Morocco, Barcelona, Japan, China and Switzerland, then to the Greek islands, Swedish Lapland, Mauritius and the Maldives, with sets at Park Hyatt Maldives, Zuma Maldives and One&Only Le Saint Géran.

Dubai

In Dubai came the residencies, from Bal Harbour and the Waldorf Astoria to Twiggy by La Cantine, where Carl Cox himself praised one of his mixes in 2025, and TF1 followed his journey from Dunkerque. Then came the brands and the big stages: Eden Gallery at Dubai Mall alongside Alec Monopoly, Charlotte Tilbury at Dubai Duty Free, a corporate gala at the Armani Hotel facing the Dubai Fountains, Beyond Developments' SIORA launch on Dubai Islands and, in summer 2026, Beyond's O1NE District at Atlantis The Royal.

What hasn't changed

The approach is the same as in 2010: prepare every set with the client, arrive on time and read the dance floor. What has grown is the toolkit, with vinyl, live percussion on drum pads and musicians he works with regularly, and a first album, Zuydcoote, released in October 2026 as a tribute to where it all started.
